WCA has noted the widespread discontent in West Cameroon which has led to the unsuccessful celebrations of the traditional ‘youth day’ of 11th February 2017. WCA strongly calls on the government to actively engage in meaningful dialogue without further delay so as to de-escalate the crisis which is now getting out of control.
WCA maintains that a negotiated constitutional settlement that assures and preserves the Anglo-Saxon heritage of West Cameroon represents the best chance to bring about a lasting solution to the “Anglophone Problem”.
Whilst we understand the frustrations of West Cameroonians as there has been no resolution to the crisis, this being in addition to the repressive, brutal and indiscriminate manner in which the government has been responding, we strongly urge all West Cameroonians to stay within the law at all times whilst exercising their legitimate rights to peacefully protest.
Once again and without further escalation, we call on the government to immediately re-instate internet services in West Cameroon and to release all those kidnapped, abducted and arrested in connection with the current crisis and to commence immediate dialogue to address the legitimate concerns that have been raised by the people of West Cameroon.
