WCA and WCMC strongly condemn barbaric acts of violence in Bamenda.
The West Cameroon Association (WCA) and the West Cameroon Movement for Change (WCMC) jointly condemn in the strongest possible terms, the barbaric acts of violence that are alleged to have been meted out to students attempting to sit the GCE at a secondary school yesterday, June 05 2017 in Bamenda.
We do not only condemn this cowardice, but equally condemn those who have been tacitly acquiescing in such thinking. These are not acts of self defence but brutal acts of terror against the people of West Cameroon.
WCA had warned the government of LRC and predicted this risk due to their intransigence and refusal to engage in meaningful dialogue to restore a 2-state federated Republic of Cameroon as the most durable resolution to the ‘Anglophone Problem’ which would guarantee the integrity of the state. In spite of the deployment of huge numbers of security forces, they were still either unable or unwilling to protect the young and vulnerable people of West Cameroon from the barbaric attacks. This indicates that these forces are there to repress and brutalise the people of West Cameroon and not for their security. They were able to prevent peaceful people from going to support the bishops in court but not innocent children trying to write exams.
This once again illustrates how the government of LRC is abusing the laws against international terror to repress and brutalise the people of West Cameroon under the cover of ‘fighting terrorism’. In fact we are now beginning to wonder whether the government of LRC is actually acting in the interest of the country or in the interest of hanging onto power – which is totally unpatriotic! WCA and WCMC love our country and want to see a peaceful negotiated settlement that will restore the self determination of the people of West Cameroon.
We fear that unless the government of LRC implements the recommendations from WCA with immediate urgency, there is a real risk that the situation could deteriorate and get out of hand. The world will not be able to say that this enfolding catastrophe was not predicted as we have been warning about this scenario for the last few months.
